The Darker Mirror

Black Mirror – the aptly named mirror to our conscience as we stumble along the path of an increasingly uncertain digital future – is in Season 7 – and this season does not disappoint. While Eulogy and The Reverie both have romantic resurrection overtones, with Reverie being particularly a standout on account of meshing what we would colloquially call deepfake with deep emotional quotient, Bete Noire lifts workplace rivalry to a whole new multidimensional level. Common People I found merely depressing – yet another story of the consequences of unaffordability. Plaything is about empathy – perhaps a bit too much of – with digital creatures, and the USS Callister sequel lifts gameplay to a mindbending, creative-destructive saga. A far better season than the somewhat forgettable Season 6. I love how the series evolves with contemporary scientific progress and keeps our deepest fears, well, contemporary

As Harsh as it gets

The Revenant will kindle (or rekindle) your interest in the frontiersman, the American a couple of centuries ago living off the land and working at the frontier between the familiar and the utter wilderness. Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) gets mauled by a bear and gets abandoned by his furrier mates. He finds his way through utter desolation, battling man and nature, to make it back to habitation and sanity. One is left to ponder which is edgier – the relationship between man and nature, or between men – Indians, Frenchmen and Americans – at war with one another

Maze of Errors

Maze Runner is a fast-paced teen fiction - turned - movie, that will keep you reasonably entertained, as long as you do not apply yourself on the glaring inconsistencies in the movie. Cannot desist taking pot shots at a few - over three years, a bunch of people that can build complicated huts but did not think of building themselves a ladder, an experiment that makes little coherent sense, a helicopter ride that was three years too late. Anyways, the story is about a group of boys that arrive - in gaps of one month - into a clearing in the middle of an ostensibly life-threatening maze. Having said that, if one is willing to suspend all semblance of a logical storyline, Maze Runner does not feel like an utter waste of time
