Whew! Clocked more than 5 movies a day - a desperate attempt to finish 'em all. But will make a note of some...

Any Given Sunday (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146838/) takes out Disneyesque notions of the morality tales of sports right to the trashcan. Every iota of negativity in interpersonal relationships - racism, the colour of money, the sheer brutality of foootball, twisted relationships - are in this movie. Oliver Stone's darkest yet. Unforgettable movie that has nothing at all to do with your understanding of football

Basic (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0264395/) - made 8 years after The Usual Suspects - is this a ripoff? Entertaining in an entertainingly similar way. Travolta is one of a galaxy of actors of Hollywood that make lead roles 30 years on look like a walk in the park

Shattered (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489664/) is one interesting movie. A couple have their daughter kidnapped by a sociopath and you are left thinking that this is one of those predictable ending mopvies where the couple reunite with tyhe daughter after hours of tribulation - not quite. An underrated movie. Or maybe I put more than your average premium on the element of surprise?

The Thirteenth Floor (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0139809/) is the Matrix all over again - no not quite. For one it raises ethical questions about the ethics of genetic engineering. Shades of gray make this an interesting study that actually precedes the gung ho good vs evil wars more typical of this genre these days

Bringing out the Dead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0163988/) has the other old-timer carry on in tradition in yet another stellar role as a rundown medic with the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) in New York. Plagued by many ghosts, trapped in the midst of a far from perfect tableaux of characters, Cage strives to find meaning in the darkest hours of a dark city

Speaking of Dark City, that and the 3.10 to Yuma are the next in my list. I am yet to see a mediocre role by Christian Bale (New World, Batman Begins, The Prestige). With a 8.1 on IMDB something tells me that I shall not be disappointed
